Ruth's Story

Ruth McClellan is a mainstay at the HOP, and for that, we’re quite fortunate. She’s a pillar of postitivity and joyfulness and is a perfect living example of her favorite quote: “Be present in the moment – tomorrow is never promised.”

Ruth, we want to say thank you for allowing us to share your story about how the HOP is your happy place. Oh, and by the way, the HOP is always a bit brighter when you’re in the House!

“Enjoying a hiatus from cancer treatment a friend suggested we try pickleball at the HOP in December 2022. Anybody who has dealt with a terminal illness knows that you learn to appreciate each new day and the small joys each one brings. I found my biggest joy of all at the HOP that day – pickleball.

The play was invigorating and I realized my muscles were coming back to life. I caught a glimpse of the old me and I was immediately addicted to the game. I made a commitment to play pickleball as many times a week as my health would allow.

The indoor facility is perfect for people of any age. It has a climate controlled environment, special lighting, and best of all super cushioned floors.

I have made so many new friends and we share a lot of laughter. The HOP is my happy place. In the months that I’ve been playing I’ve never felt more alive. What a blessing!”
